One of Henzells’ longest-serving team members, Julie Garland has been a driving force in making the business the success it is today.
Julie works tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the machine running smoothly and is one of the “go to” people in the office for anybody needing guidance and advice.
She has been part of the Henzells team since 2005 and currently works as trust account officer for the rentals team and group payroll officer. When she first joined the agency 17 years ago, Julie worked with the land sales team at Pelican Waters.
After some time off with a new baby, she returned to the Henzells’ main office transitioning into accounts, payroll, trust work and “helping out wherever I can”.
So, what does an average day look like for Julie?
“Well, no two days are the same. Usually once I come into work my first task is to start doing receipts for rents, then I talk to the property managers, help them with any queries they have and assist with accounting,’’ Julie said.
“Essentially, from there, it’s whatever Katherine (Henzells General Manager) needs. Having been with Henzells for a long period of time, I have a pretty broad knowledge of how the business works, so I am always happy to help out when people need assistance or advice,’’ she said.
Before settling on the Sunshine Coast to complete her final years of schooling, Julie moved around various Queensland towns due to her father’s occupation in the building industry.
Upon graduating from high school, she completed an accounting degree at QUT and worked for several years in accounts and payroll in the mining and agri-business sectors before returning to the Sunshine Coast to start a family.
Married with two children aged 16 and 18, Julie loves spending her spare time boating, camping and fishing. She and her husband have been long-time leaders of the Kawana Scout Group.
Julie has experienced plenty of changes in the industry over the years, none more so than moving into the digital age, but the one constant for her at Henzells has been the pursuit of a positive work culture.
“The office has changed over time but my opinion is that we are in the best position for as long as I can remember. I actually enjoy coming to work and enjoy the people. Most of the staff are friends outside of work, which is a great sign.”
Julie has racked up multiple awards in her time at Henzells. In 2009, she was awarded the Special Achievement Award for her contribution to the business and in 2016 was presented with the Judy Henzell “All Rounder” Award. In 2019, Julie was also honoured to receive the Bevan Henzell Award for her commitment to Henzells Agency.
However, she rates one of her best achievements as having her name etched on the Henzells Honour Board for 15 years’ service. “I’m looking forward to getting to 20 and 25 years,’’ she said.
