One of the southern Sunshine Coast’s hidden gems, Battery Hill is riding a wave of popularity for couples and families seeking the quintessential coastal lifestyle.

Nestled between several blue-chip suburbs, Battery Hill offers an old-school beach village atmosphere and excellent lifestyle amenities on the doorstep, all within 4km of the thriving Caloundra CBD.

Residents are spoilt for choice with cafes, shopping centre, tavern, health services, local golf course and a choice of quality nearby schools including Talara College, Currimundi State School, Currimundi Special School, Caloundra State High School and Meridan State College all within walking distance or a short drive.

Our sales manager Kyle Davies has lived in Battery Hill since moving to the Sunshine Coast with his family 19 years ago and he wouldn’t have it any other way.

“Back then everyone was talking about Dicky Beach and Moffat Beach while Battery Hill was considered the poorer cousin, but times have changed,’’ Kyle said.

“It’s gaining a reputation as part of the new golden triangle, positioned between Currimundi, Dicky Beach and Aroona out the back. It’s all about the lifestyle where you can leave the car at home and walk, ride or skate to everything you need.”

His early memories are filled with sun-soaked weekends, walking with his young children to Currimundi Lake for a day of swimming, and hot chips on the way home from Coco’s Café.

“We bought here because of the location and the great schools in the area. You can walk to Woollies and Currimundi Marketplace, the doctor’s surgery, vets, treat yourself to lunch at the Currimundi Pub beer garden, swim between the flags at Dicky Beach and have a cold drink at the surf club.

“The local beach is dog friendly and you’re always bumping into somebody you know. When the kids were younger, they were involved with the nippers, which was a great way to meet families who we are still friends with today. It’s a warm and friendly place, where everybody says hello,” Kyle said.

In recent years the property market has woken up to the appeal of Battery Hill. Existing residents are pouring plenty of money into their homes and the elevated areas are particularly sought after with their great ocean views and sea breezes.

“Battery Hill has come a long way from its ‘blue collar’ roots, growing into a more owner-occupier and family friendly destination. It is a diverse market with units, townhouses and houses, and lots of renovations happening.

“Owners are enjoying solid gains with the market rising about 20% in the last three years. There’s approximately 900 houses and 350 units in the suburb, with around 30-35 properties selling per year, so it’s quite tightly held.

“Battery Hill has something for everyone. You can still buy a house for $850,000 where you can walk to the beach, or at the higher end with ocean views, we are achieving sales approaching $2 million.’’ Kyle said.
