Unmasking our newest Henzells Heroes

From tackling the hard jobs in local rugby, to turning cans into cars for those in need, giving voice to performers so they can bring joy to the community and keeping residents of all ages active and engaged through cycling – our latest crop of heroes are nothing short of amazing!

We are delighted to announce the winners of our Henzells Heroes for 2022, all of whom have gone above and beyond to enrich the lives of people around them and make the Sunshine Coast a better place.

The winners are….

TIM ROGERS
Tim is the driving force behind Cycling Without Age’s Sunshine Coast chapter – a not for profit dedicated to connecting those no longer able to ride for themselves with their community and outdoors by giving them free rides on trishaw bikes. Tim spends his free time organising and managing the CWA teams, overseeing locations and ensuring the smooth running of events as well as heading administration for the group.

DANIEL MCKENZIE
Daniel has been involved with Caloundra Rugby Union for more than 15 years as a player, committee member, manager and coach. Regarded as the ultimate club man and advocate for the local area, ‘Macca’ is constantly donating his time to the club during training and game days, organising registrations, equipment and helping out with his handyman skills.

JEN YOUNG
Jen is another local hero enriching the lives of others through the power of music. As the owner of the Just Sing Out music academy, she offers fulfilling singing, music and dance programs to local youth, the NDIS and special needs communities as well as school groups. Jen is also the director of the Sunshine Coast Show Choir bringing together adults from all walks of life together to perform. She constantly gives back to the community by hosting performances at aged care venues, Christmas celebrations and school events.

SAM TUCKER
Sam is the founder of ‘The Farm’ community group supporting local causes for the past four years in various capacities such as helping disengaged youth, repairing cars for families in need and assisting non-profit organisations such as Lily House. Sam’s fundraising efforts collecting cans have resulted in eight cars being restored to road worthy condition for donation to local families to assist their job security and quality of life. Sam also volunteers at local skate parks sponsoring equipment for youth, has set up a pay-it-forward coffee program and is a disability support worker.

IAN RIX
Ian ‘Rixy’ Rix is the creative force behind the Merryatrics, a group of Sunshine Coast seniors who love to sing and perform together in musical and dramatic shows at the Events Centre, retirement villages and church halls. Ian’s contribution to the Merryatrics as musical director and fellow performer brings joy to audiences around Caloundra as well as teaching seniors they are never too old to tread the boards.

Congratulations to all our winners who give so much yet ask for so little in return. They have each received a well-deserved $500 from Henzells Agency.

Henzells is very thankful to the many people who set such an excellent example volunteering their time and efforts so others can shine.
