As the first year of the Horizon Festival wraps up dates have already been released for 2017! Horizon Festival was such a success all round the managers just had to give us all something to look forward to in 2017. This year produced 220 events over 12 locations and 10 days of entertainment and culture for the Sunshine Coast.
For those that missed the Horizon Festival 2016 it started with Horizon Ignites on the 2nd of September lighting Omrah Avenue, Caloundra with an array of lanterns, buskers, stilt walkers, streetart, laneway bars and food vendors all free for your entertainment! Horizon Festival then continued to their next event on the 3rd of September Colour the Street in Howard Street, Nambour beginning from 4pm sharp creating an urban bloc party featuring 3D chalk art lining the streets by local artist Brian Tisdal. This event offered street performances, lantern parades, laser lights shows, street theatre, slam poetry and much more offering something for everyone!
On September 4th the Horizon Festival held a Spring Vibes in the Gardens: Family Day Out at Maroochy Regional Botanical Gardens for everyone to enjoy a family picnic, live music, story telling, cooking demonstrations, solitary bee presentations and nest box building which provided an enjoyable fathers days for all who attended.
Monday the 5th of September put on a REMIX Summits to tackle the ideas of the future with some huge names discussing culture, technology and entrepreneurship shaping the future of creative industries and creative technology.
From the 9th – 11th of September The Sunshine Coast International Readers Writers Festival was in full swing with both internationally and nationally renowned writers, poets, songwriters, photographers and journalists landing on the sandy shores of Coolum. Whether you enjoy slam poetry, comedy or even want to pick up some tips or inspiration there is many options of workshops and shows available to attendees.
The grand finale to ten days of culture and entertainment was the Dawn awakening held at Stumer Creek Coolum beach, a traditional meeting place for out aboriginal ancestors. This ceremonial celebration told the traditional stories of out First Nations Peoples through music, spoken word and dance to celebrate the awakening of a new dawn.
