What Makes A Great Real Estate Agent?

Choosing the right agent is one of the most important decisions to make when selling your home.

Does your agent care about you and your individual circumstances? Are they skilful negotiators and great communicators? Do they have an intimate knowledge of the local area and an excellent strike rate at selling properties like yours? Do they have a trusted brand behind them with strong connections to the local community? Is your agent friendly, honest, approachable and committed to achieving your goals rather than their own?

In a recent REIQ survey, people were asked to rank the top drivers of choice when selecting an agent. 

The top six most important factors identified were 1. Trustworthiness, 2. Friendliness and Approachability, 3. Good Communication, 4. Positive Customer Reviews, 5. Cost of Services and 6. Level of Industry Experience. 

The survey also revealed that 74% of the general public described real estate agents in a positive manner. Respondents chose friendliness (45%), helpfulness (44%) and accessibility (30%) as the top three attributes agents possess.

REIQ CEO Antonia Mercorella said the survey results showed that Queensland real estate professionals were regarded in a positive way within the communities they serve.

“Queensland’s real estate market has gone from strength to strength, but as a result the demands on real estate professionals have increased in line with this, meaning higher levels of enquiry from potential buyers and tenants, and greater levels of competition for listings within the industry,” she said.

“In order to operate successfully and uphold a good reputation in this fast-moving market, real estate professionals have adopted new technology, learnt to work smarter and have put in more hours to ensure they can respond to large volumes of enquiry in a timely manner.

“These efforts aren’t always seen by the broader community, but the REIQ is continually heartened by the quality and integrity of professionals within our sector and membership,’’ she said.
