Little Mountain is situated to the south of the Mooloolah River National Park, east of the Bruce Highway and west of Caloundra with nearby attractions including Corbould Park Racecourse, air museum, Caloundra Conservation Park and Beerwah State Forest.
According to Sunshine Coast Council data, European settlement of Little Mountain and surrounds dates to the late 1800s with the land used predominately for farming and grazing.
Residential development began in the 1970s, with significant growth occurring from the early 1990s. The population more than quadrupled between 1991 and 2006 and has been growing at a steady rate since. Today, approximately 10,000 residents call the vibrant community home.
