As Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson remarked – 80 years in business is a great testament to going the distance, considering we’ve had five Prime Ministers in the past five years alone!
Mr Jamieson, along with Caloundra councillor Tim Dwyer, were official guests at the unveiling of Henzells’ 80th Anniversary Wall of Recognition at our Bulcock Street headquarters in Caloundra this week – where credit was paid to the business’s commitment to community and staff.
The Mayor congratulated directors Roy Henzell and Garry Waters for creating a unique team culture.
“I would like to commend Garry and Roy for recognising great staff who have been with them for an extended period, which is rare in modern business and speaks volumes for the culture that has been created,’’ Mr Jamieson said.
He also described the original purchase of 810 hectares of land by Roy Henzell Senior in 1946 – later to become the master planned Pelican Waters community – as bold thinking in its time.
“Since opening its doors in 1935, Henzells has been instrumental in terms of contributing to the community,’’ Mr Jamieson told staff and media who had assembled for the event.
Garry Waters said the company was proud of its legacy and excited for the future.
“What we are today as a company is a result of the service and dedication of the generations who have gone before us.”
Echoing the sentiments of Sir Richard Branson, he said Henzells always strived to make its people the first priority. “If we look after our people, they will look after our clients,’’ he said.
The impact of the Henzells real estate business has been significant. More than 19,000 properties have been sold at an average of 20 per month since opening its doors 80 years ago, helping to transform the region from a sleepy fishing village to the sophisticated coastal destination it is today.
At Pelican Waters, some 3000 lots of land has sold over 25 years, with a further 2250 dwelling lots in the planning for its final releases surrounding the emerging marina and town centre precinct in the estate’s southern reaches.
Entire suburbs have been shaped by Henzells including Aroona, Ridgehaven, Currimundi, Golden Beach and Pelican Waters.
Other development highlights include the Greg Norman-designed golf course and the region’s only 4.5 star hotel – Pelican Waters Resort and Spa, plus a major shopping centre, waterfront tavern, service station under construction and the soon to be built town centre and marina precinct.
More than bricks and mortar, Henzells has also contributed greatly to community projects such as donating land for the Caloundra Cricket Club, Golden Beach bowls and tennis club and Caloundra City Private School, establishing numerous parks, building bridges and canals and raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities and sporting groups.
